Flockmath is a free set of planning calculators for backyard chicken keepers, homesteaders, and anyone raising poultry at home. Instead of guessing or digging through forum threads, you type in your real numbers and get clear answers for coop size, feed cost, egg output, incubation dates, and more.

There are more than 20 free calculators covering chickens, quail, ducks, and turkeys, plus 30 breed profiles to help you choose the right birds. Each calculator cites its own sources on the page — extension publications where they exist, and market data or keeper practice where they don’t. We say which is which. Frequently asked questions

Are Flockmath's calculators free?

Yes. Every calculator on Flockmath is completely free to use, with no limits and no paid tiers. You can use any tool as many times as you like and bookmark the ones you need.

Do I need to create an account or enter my email?

No. Flockmath never asks you to sign up, log in, or hand over an email to use a calculator, and you can start entering your numbers the moment a page loads. The only optional email is our newsletter, which you are free to ignore.

How accurate are the calculators?

The calculators give planning-grade estimates, not exact guarantees. Your real results will vary with breed, climate, age, season, feed quality, and how you manage your flock, so use the numbers as a solid starting point and adjust for your own setup. For any health or welfare concern, check with a qualified poultry vet or your local extension service. You can read how we build and review our formulas on our editorial standards page.

What are the formulas based on?

It varies by calculator, and each one says so on its own page. Chicken figures draw on extension publications from Penn State, Poultry Extension, Alabama and Minnesota among others. Quail draw on Mississippi State. Cost calculators use market pricing and government data, because extension services don’t publish backyard budgets. Where no published figure exists, we say so instead of implying one.

Do the calculators work for ducks, quail, and turkeys too?

Yes. Alongside the chicken tools, Flockmath has dedicated calculators for quail, ducks, and turkeys, covering housing or cage size, feed cost, and egg yield for each. Every tool uses figures suited to that species, since a duck's space and feed needs are very different from a quail's.

Can I use them on my phone in the coop?

Yes. Every calculator is mobile-friendly and runs right in your browser, with no app to download. The inputs are built for quick, one-handed use, so you can check a number while you are standing in the run.
